Bauchi State has received a significant boost in its efforts to alleviate the suffering of flood victims, courtesy of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Nigerian Red Cross Society. The two organizations have distributed food and non-food items worth $200,000 to affected communities in Kirfi and Bauchi Local Government Areas.
The gesture is part of the ECOWAS Flood Response Project, which aims to provide relief to victims of the 2024 floods. The project has supported 850 households, with each of the 1,000 affected households receiving 25 kilograms of rice, 15 kilograms of beans, 15 kilograms of garri, 5 liters of vegetable oil, 5 liters of palm oil, and ₦75,000 cash transfer.
Representing ECOWAS, Dr. Sintiki Tarfa commended the Nigerian Red Cross Society for its partnership in assisting victims of flood and other disasters. President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Oluyemisiyi Adetayo, lauded the efforts of ECOWAS and pledged continued support to victims of any disaster.
Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Aminu Hammayo, appreciated ECOWAS and the Nigerian Red Cross Society for their support, urging beneficiaries to make the best use of the items received.
